Villa G is located in Kaunas, Lithuania and is seated on the river bank of its largest river Nemunas. The river offers an exceptional view from the house, however, it is facing the North side of the site while the street is on the South. This imposed a challenge of designing the house with the best views, light and privacy possible. Also, the site is rather small for the size of the house – 700 and 400 square meters respectively.
With regards to site the large programme of the villa was divided into four levels: ground level garage, first floor as the main living space, second floor for the master bedroom and the roof terrace. The decision also allows for more privacy in the living part of the house as well as better views to the river. Every floor contains a large outdoor terrace facing West as well as the river.
The architecture of the villa takes its clues from the horizontal lines of the landscape: the river with the woods in the background on its both sides. The villa is therefore designed in three long white horizontal planes that almost seem to be floating due to the neutral black wall tiles that blend to the dark woods behind the house. The South facade is designed with vertical timber slates in between the glazing that help to both shade the sun and keep the privacy from the street.
The interior of the house is dedicated to large open well-lit spaces with extraordinary views. The luxurious modern interior is composed of natural materials such as wood and stone as well as earthy tones of brown, grey and black.
